On Monday 18th July at 00:40 I was walking past Manchester Picadilly train station when I saw 2 male youths attempting to steal bicycles. I approached a member of train station staff and asked them to alert the police. Within 2/3 minutes British Transport Police were on the scene and detained these 2 youths. The Officers present asked people in the nearby vicinity were they witness to the crime to which I stepped forward. He asked me to hang on and he would take a statement. Once the males were carted off to custody the Officer took a brief verbal statement and asked if I would be available to give a full written statement.
Upon walking to the BTP offices the Officer came across a male who had injuries so dealt with this. And then took me up to the offices. Once the statement had been finally taken it was approximetely 01:45 and would of been to late for me to get public transport home so the Officer said he would give me a lift home but upon coming out of the station he was called to a drunk and abusive male who was refusing to leave the station. This took up another 25 minutes.
Even afterwards he still offered me a lift home even after me saying I would get a taxi. The point i’m trying to make is that despite what Joe public may think about Police Officers they do an excellent job and those little community spirit things that they do make me appreciate police officers even more.
Thank you to PC 7050 British Transport Police. P.S. I hope this finds PC 7050 and he realizes how much I appreciate what he done.
